Bokens texter tar upp en rad olika teman, som minneskulturen kring slaveriet under svensk flagg, synen på pirater, svensk sjöfart i sydeuropa, sökandet efter försvunna polarforskare, jordbruk under och efter kolonialtiden i Afrika, disciplinen vid kadettutbildningen på Karlberg, det militära indelningsverket och antirasisters syn på antisemitism.
